WHY HIRE PROFESSIONAL DESIGN ASSISTANCE? I think I can do this myself. It is possible that there may not be a need for a design professional. It depends on the scope and magnitude of the project coupled with the comfort level of the owner and the amount of time one chooses to invest. Consider the following questions: 1. Do you have management experience and knowledge of the project elements at hand? 2. In what ways can you expect to be taken advantage? 3. Do you have a specific plan? Is it drawn to scale? 4. Do you have a budget? 5. Is your plan feasibly achieved within your budget? 6. Do you know how your proposed space will function? 7. Are you happy with your plan, how it will work and look? 8. Do you wonder if it could be better? 9. Will your furniture fit? (This sounds silly, but I have stories for you.) 10. In what order do things need to take place to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget? 11. Does your plan require new finishes or other contracting work? 12. If so, who will provide those services to you? 13. How will you protect yourself and your legal rights within the process? 14. Do you know your rights? 15. How will you communicate your requirements and standards to the contractors? 16. How will you protect the quality standards you intend? 17. Do you have time to manage the implementation of the process? 18. What will you do if something doesn’t turn out the way you had envisioned? Do you have any recourse? A designer may be needed for a portion of the project or for the project in its entirety. Speak with us to discuss your level of skill and comfort within the process; take on only the parts of the project that you believe you can manage. Get help with the rest. If we aren’t the right firm to service your needs, we’ll be happy to provide you with a list of some other design firms with whom you may work.
